In this session, ASC Associate member Jay Holben, co-author of The Cine Lens Manual and author of American Cinematographer’s Shot Craft will present a conversation about the world of cinema-style optics. This is accompanied by examples of creative use of optical characteristics and how lenses play a significant role in visual storytelling. Forming a hybrid discussion between the ultimate lens manual and practical tips and lessons for cinematography.
The session will cover:

  • The major lens aberrations and qualities
  • Understanding the physics of light and glass
  • Creative implementations of various lenses
  • Casting the lens to the project
