The Director is everything and nothing on a film set. Rarely working hands-on, the Director supports the work of potentially hundreds of creatives, enabling them to realise their potential and in doing so to manifest the Director’s vision.

To be a great director, you might be asked to be a technical genius, Actor “whisperer”, visual artist, conflict negotiator, storyteller, and accountant. In this humorous and highly actionable session, join award-winning Writer-Director Maxim Jago as he presents some of the most impactful tips he has learned while directing over 30 short films and two feature films.

Maxim will share anecdotes and valuable lessons learned, negotiation techniques and approaches to conflict management, along with a unique perspective on the two key tasks directors must master: To have a vision and communicate it.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • Effective approaches to teamwork in production
  • How to recognize and inspire authentic performances in actors
  • Forward planning – backwards!
  • Dealing with conflict gracefully
  • Staying creative during long nights and even longer days
