Shay, Yvonne

Yvonne Shay advises attorneys and media & entertainment executives at Yvonne Shay Consulting. She was previously Director, Business & Legal Affairs, Original Films at Netflix where she oversaw Business & Legal Affairs for the Original Independent Films development slate and also headed BLA for Original Family Films. In these roles, she formulated business and legal strategies in partnership with senior film leadership while managing teams of attorneys. As a dealmaker, Yvonne negotiated above-the-line deals from development through production, including for writers, producers, directors, and actors. She also optioned a variety of rights and hired third party production companies. Her movie projects include “Lift” with Kevin Hart, Wes Anderson’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Tribeca award-winner “The Half of It.”

Prior to Netflix, Yvonne was Vice President, Business Affairs for Disney Branded Television. She was responsible for managing the BA team and handled both scripted and unscripted deals in her dual role as studio and network business affairs. During her tenure at Disney, among other things Yvonne served as Executive Sponsor of the DCWW Leadership Mentor Program and was a founding Steering Committee member of the Disney Lawyers of Color.

Yvonne has also been Director, Business Affairs at CBS Paramount International Television. She began her career as an associate attorney at the international law firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher in corporate transactions. Yvonne received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated with high honors from the University of California, Berkeley. She also has served on the board of the Chinese American Museum.
