Pines, Joshua
Spanning iconic projects from "Star Wars" to "Roma," and "The Aviator" to the latest Marvel series, Josh Pines has collaborated with some of the world's most esteemed cinematographers, directors, and studios throughout his illustrious four-decade career as a color scientist. He has consistently challenged the boundaries of current technology, from pioneering developments in image scanning for ILM in the early '80s to serving as Vice President of Color Imaging R&D at Technicolor Digital Intermediate, and contributing significantly to the advent of AI-based image processing techniques.
Josh's contributions have been pivotal; it's fair to say the industry's current advancements might not have been possible without his innovations. Among his notable achievements is the creation of the Color Decision List (CDL) system, which remains the gold standard for look management several decades on.
Yet, Josh's expertise extends beyond his technical achievements. As a world-class color scientist, he possesses a rare gift for teaching. Josh has a unique ability to demystify some of the most complex concepts in color science, making them engaging, straightforward, and understandable. His talent for educating is unparalleled, distinguishing him as a remarkable figure in the world of color science and beyond.
Joshua has always thought that computers could be a useful tool in making movies better, and he still hopes that one day this may come true.
