Megan Chao is an award-winning documentary producer and picture editor, and is currently the vice president of development and production for Birman Productions, Inc., based in Los Angeles.  She has a successful track record of managing diverse creative teams and strategic partnerships, while spearheading projects from inception through show delivery.  She is currently the showrunner for Eden (wt), a global environmental sustainability documentary series, and is directing an untitled social documentary feature about the street harassment of women in public spaces.

Birman Productions specializes in premium factual multi-platform content, with a wide-ranging slate of documentaries and series.  Clients include Warner Bros Discovery, Netflix, Nat Geo, CuriosityStream and PBS, among others.

Chao currently serves on the Board of Governors for the Television Academy, representing the documentary programming peer group. She is on the Bylaws and Emmy Awards committees and serves as chair of the Activities committee.  She also chairs the Generative AI Impact on the Emmy Awards group, a subcommittee of the Academy’s AI Task Force.  She is a hyphenate active member in the Picture Editors peer group.  

Chao is also a member of the Producers Guild of America, where she serves as one of the co-chairs for the Documentary and Nonfiction Committee.
